A Gentle Place to Land: Psihomaraton and the Shared Weight of Being Human

Strategist

Some days, staying afloat feels like a triumph.

Mental health is not always about crisis but about the subtle, everyday effort to keep our heads above water. In many ways, it is an ongoing negotiation with ourselves. A quiet, often invisible attempt to stay sane when life, grief, fear or even just the daily weight of being human feels like too much. Some days are gentle, the water calm. Other days, it crashes over us without warning.

At times, that fight for balance is a lonely one. But then, unexpectedly and ever so wonderfully, we stumble across people, spaces and projects that feel like lifelines. They do not always come in the shape of therapists or experts. Sometimes, they arrive as a friend who listens without trying to fix us, a stranger who reminds us we are not broken, a message on a difficult day that feels like a hand reaching through the fog.

And sometimes, they come as a movement.

That is what Psihomaraton is — a deeply human reminder that no one has to do this alone. A place where healing becomes a shared experience, where stories are welcomed without shame and where vulnerability is met not with discomfort, but with care. A reminder that it is okay to not be okay and that reaching out for help is a courageous act of survival. Psihomaraton provides a language to the feelings we have all experienced, even when we could not  find the words. It opens a door and invites you to step inside, knowing that your struggles are valid and your wellbeing matters.

We were profoundly moved when the incredibly enthusiastic OkTA team reached out to us to help shape this year’s communication outreach. For the sixth year in a row, this team of dedicated professionals, experts in the domain of mental health, has been creating an invaluable space for dialogue and awareness around the preservation and nurturing of mental health in Montenegro. Their work, driven by a combination of expertise and an unwavering commitment to the cause, has placed mental health at the heart of the national conversation — something that is often not easy or without its challenges.

This year, Psihomaraton brought together a series of thought-provoking lectures and workshops that continued to break down stigmas and deepen understanding. These sessions covered a wide array of mental health topics, from managing stress and anxiety to understanding the impact of trauma and fostering emotional resilience. Through these lectures, participants were given the opportunity to explore how to better care for their mental well-being in a world that often seems to prioritize everything but.

What Psihomaraton has built is more than an event or a campaign. Over the years, it has grown into a community to fall back on, a soft place to land when things get heavy. In standing beside them, even in a small way, we were reminded of the very thing this movement offers to others: that healing is not linear. That simply showing up, for yourself and for others, is an act of courage.

And when you find people who are willing to walk that road with you, whether it is for a moment or a mile, you hold onto them.
